DEVO. 10.05.26

“So be very careful to love the LORD your God.” (‭‭Joshua‬ ‭23‬:‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

- Joshua is very old and at the end of his life.

- That means that this is the most important thing that he can pass on to the children of Israel, who he has just led into the promise land and helped conquer the land.

- He is saying “Love the Lord your God” or let me put it this way, “Stay in love”

- We all know how important it is to love Him in our head but are you “In Love” in in your heart?

- Joshua knew that you can show love out of duty but staying “In Love” is totally different. Being “in love” involves your heart and emotions”

- There is a ring on Josie’s finger that says I love her and I am married to her. It shows a commitment that we made to each other.

- It s a reminder of our vows that we said to each other but it doesn’t reveal how I am treating her today and whether I am still “In Love” today

- My actions will show, based on how I treat her, talk to her and serve her, if I am still “In love” with her!

- You can go to church every Sunday out of duty or you can go to church on Sunday to express your love to him and refresh and renew your love relationship with him.

- Some go to church to evaluate a pastor and that is entirely the wrong reason to go to church.

- Jesus tells us the same thing in the New Testament. In Mark 12:30 he says, “And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.”

- ‭‭By combining your heart, soul, mind and strength, He is saying this includes all of you.

- What you dwell on in your heart.

- Your soul is your mind, will and emotions. These are the motivating forces in our life.

- Your mind is what you think on and what captures your attention.

- Your strength is your physical ability.

- If you are “In Love”, your feelings on the inside will show on the outside

- Everyone knows when someone is “In Love!” You can’t hide it.

- At the same time, everyone knows when you have fallen out of love!

- You begin to become judgmental, accusatory, critical and harsh!

- In Joshua 23:8, he says, “Cling tightly to the LORD your God as you have done until now.”

- “Cling tightly” means, get as close to Jesus as you can possibly get!

- Remember why you fell in love and fall in love all over again!

- Have a great Monday!
