DEVO. 08.31.26
“But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.” (Luke 11:8 NLT)
- When it comes to your prayer life, do you show shameless persistence when you ask?
- Or do you ask and then give up after a few days!
- Jesus gives us this example of being shameless and being persistent.
- This example is something that he expects us to follow.
- He says, “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. (Luke 11:5 NLT)
- And your friends response is “‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’” (11:7)
- The friend does not say that he doesn’t have it to give, the friend says, “Don’t bother me.”
- It is inconvenient for him!
- You have a choice, you can be offended and angry or because this person is your friend, you can become persistent and shameless and ask even louder!
- That’s how Jesus encourages us to pray!
- Because of our relationship with Jesus, we have privileges that others do not!
- Hebrews 4:16 tells us that “we can come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
- Right after this Jesus goes on to say, “ So I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” (11:9-10)
- So my question today is, what have you given up asking for?
- Why have you stopped?
- Today, get a little shameless!
- Become specific and persistent and ask!
- Don’t give up because everyone who asks, receives!
- Today is a great day to be persistent and not give up!
- Have a great Monday!
