DEVO. 03.20.24
”And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!“ (Luke 5:6 NLT
)
- Have you ever worked really hard at something and produced nothing?
- Have you ever felt like giving up and said, “what’s the use?”
- In Luke 5, the disciples had been fishing all night and didn’t catch a thing!
- They produced nothing!
- They were worn out and tired.
- Peter knew fishing. Fishing was his thing!
- He definitely knew better than this Rabi!
- Then Jesus says, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”(verse 4)
- At this point, Peter calls him, “Master”
- Master means, “Leader or Boss”
- Peter says, “But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”
- He is “Master” and He will obey his word or follow His instructions.
- Then, when He followed the Master’s instructions, verse 6 says, “this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!“
- ”When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” (Verse 8)
- He realizes his sinfulness and Jesus’ Holiness.
- He calls Him Lord.
- Lord, means more than Master. It means Supreme Master.
- Lord means “owner of all”. In other words, you have a right to all of me and everything that I do.
- Just a word from Jesus made this happen.
- He realized that the Holiness of Jesus changes everything!
- Everything from his spiritual condition to vocation of catching fish!
- The Word, gave a word and when Simon obeyed the word from the Word, it changed everything.
- So today, instead of working harder in your own strength, slow down, listen closely and get a “word” from the “Word”
- Give every part of everything you do to your Lord.
- Go wherever He directs you to go and do whatever He tells you to do.
- You may be amazed at the results!
- Have a good Wednesday!
