DEVO. 05.03.25
“Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.”
(Proverbs 13:20 NLT)
- Stop for a moment a see who you are walking with.
- Who are your closest friends?
- What kind of choices are they making?
- Are they following God and pursuing Him?
- Are they honoring His Word.
- Are they chasing after Him with all of their heart soul and strength?
- You’ve hear of the phrase, “You become like those who you associate with.”
- This Proverb backs that up.
- The Amplified puts it this way, “He who walks [as a companion] with wise men will be wise, But the companions of [conceited, dull-witted] fools [are fools themselves and] will experience harm. [Is 32:6]”
- Walking with someone is a picture of your close association.
- When you closely associate with someone who is wise, their wisdoms will rub off on you.
- But the converse is also true.
- If you closely associate with those who are ungodly or don’t trust in God you will make unwise and foolish decisions based on your association.
- The amplified connects foolish with “conceited, and dull-witted”
- Conceited would mean, thinking that your own wisdom is greater than God’s.
- To be conceited is defined as being “proud of oneself”
- It’s elevating “self” over God.
- In Matthew 6:33 Jesus says, “But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.”
- Today, get your priorities right.
- Make His way the most important way.
- Seek after Gods wisdom first!
- A famous quote is: “Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.”
- Who are your top 3 influences in your life?
- Whose voice do you listen to the most?
- Whose words carry the most weight?
- Those words may not be true but you have made them true by honoring them and holding on to them.
- If you need to loose some fools then do it!
- Do it now!
- Don’t keep hanging around those who are dragging you down.
- Don’t listen to words that are pointing you in the wrong direction.
- Surround yourself with Godly people.
- Your closest relationships will begin to define you!
- Have a great Weekend!
