DEVO. 01.20.23
“God had listened to Abraham’s request and kept Lot safe, removing him from the disaster that engulfed the cities on the plain.” Genesis 19:29 NLT
- God was about to destroy Sodom & Gomorrah because of their sin.
- God had to deal with the iniquity in the city.
- But because of Abrahams friendship with God, the Lord told Abraham what he was about to do.
- James 2:23 says that “Abraham was called the friend of God”
- But what made him a friend of God?
- The first part of James 2:23 says, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.”
- It says “Because of His Faith!”
- Abraham simply believed God!
- Abraham took God at His Word.
- Abraham believed God, which meant that he trusted God and because Abraham trusted and believed in God, God knew that He could trust Abraham.
- Genesis 19:23 says, “Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?”
- Abrahams closeness to God gave him the ability to negotiate with God, all the way from 50 people down to 10.
- The Lord said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.”” (Gen. 18:32)
- Abrahams closeness to God is what saved Lot’s life.
- Even though God still destroyed Sodom, He spared Lot.
- “God had listened to Abraham’s request and kept Lot safe.”
- Friendship has its benefits!
- God heard, God listened and God acted.
- How about you?
- Are you a friend of God?
- Do you have faith in Him and can He trust you?
- If so, who are you praying for?
- Who are you interceding for that they would receive the mercy of God instead of judgment.
- As we go through this time of drawing near to God, make it your goal to intercede for those who are spiritually blind.
- Be the reason that God spare them and rescues them from imminent danger.
- Who are you praying for, today?
- Write down their name and bring it before the Lord!
- Have a great weekend!
