FAN INTO FLAME
“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.” (2 Timothy 1:6 NLT)
- If you have ever had a dying campfire, you know what it means to fan a small flame into a fire.
- Fire typically requires oxygen as one of its essential components
- The Apostle Paul is telling Timothy that He’s got the fire of God on the inside of him.
- But every fire will eventually die out if it is left on its own.
- A flame is not self sustaining.
- It needs oxygen!
- It needs to be attended to, and that’s where the wind of the spirit comes into play!
- Paul says in verse 5 that “I am reminded of your sincere faith”
- So, Timothy has a sincere faith.
- He has already established that Jesus is Lord of His life. That’s good enough for salvation but God wants to do more!
- God wants what is on the inside of you to make a difference all around you!
- God wants to do more with you!
- You’ve got to Fan that Flame.
- Get in the Word of God and begin to pray that the fire inside of you never goes out.
- I love what I read in the book “Draw the Circle” by Mark Batterson. In the book is a quote from Rodney “Gypsy” Smith who gave the best description that I have heard of how to fan the flame. He said, “Go home. Lock yourself in your room. Kneel down in the middle of the floor, and with a piece of chalk draw a circle around yourself. There, on your knees, pray fervently and brokenly that God would start a revival within that chalk circle.”
- If you pursue the presence of God like that, I guarantee that that flame with grow.
- Ask the Lord for a fresh filling of His Holy Spirit, today!
- Don’t worry about what people think or what people will say.
- Get filled up with fresh oxygen and feeds the flame!
- Let that flame burst into a raging fire!
- Today, carry that fire and spread it wherever you go to whomever you encounter!
- Have a great Tuesday!
