DEVO. 07.18.25
“For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight.” (Romans 2:13 NLT)
- Obedience is important!
- How many times have you listened to a good teaching or a sermon and thought, “That was a great teaching”but failed to implement what you had just heard?
- Instead, you moved along to another great teaching.
- Today, we seem to have more information coming at us than we know what to do with.
- Once you hear something you are responsible for what you do with it.
- We have information overload.
- We receive instructions through social media, Websights YouTube, blogs, church, school, work, TV, radio, and podcasts.
- It then becomes easy to hear good instruction and teaching and never apply.
- We need information but we also need application.
- James 1:22 says, “Don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”
- Not “Should do” but “Must do”.
- Just because you have heard something doesn’t mean that you have learned it.
- James 1:25 has good advice for us. He says, “He who looks carefully into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and faithfully abides by it, not having become a [careless] listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he will be blessed and favored by God in what he does [in his life of obedience].
- He says, abide in the Word that you have heard.
- Dwell in it and soak it in.
- Then apply it and use it.
- In Romans 2:13 (AMP) it says, “Those who [actually] obey the Law who will be justified [pronounced free of the guilt of sin and declared acceptable to Him].”
- So, today, don’t just “breeze through” your Bible, instead, “dig in”.
- Ask God to reveal His Word to your heart and find a way to apply it to your life.
- Information + Application = Transformation!
- Have a great weekend!
