DEVO. 06.30.26
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”” (Mark 14:38 NIV)
- This is an important principle for all of us, “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
- Jesus had gone to the garden called Gethsemane, just prior to His crucifixion
- He told them to “Sit here while I pray.”
- He was obviously overwhelmed with the pressures ahead.
- He said, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,”
- Then he told them to “Stay here and keep watch.””
- All they needed to do was wait and watch.
- But their flesh was weak.
- Your flesh is your mind, will and emotions.
- If you live by your flesh, you will make decisions based on your feelings or by what you think is right.
- Galatians 5:16-17 says, “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.”
- The disciples were being led by their flesh. They were tired physically, so their body said, “sleep”
- They needed to do whatever it took to fight against that in order to stay awake and pray with Jesus!
- But their flesh was stronger than their spirit and they slept at a crucial spiritual moment for Jesus!
- Take a lesson from Jesus!
- He says, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
- The spiritual act of praying is feeding your spirit.
- If you are too tired to pray in the natural then pray in the spirit.
- Let the Spirit of God have your tongue!
- The Lord tells us in Psalm 81:10 to “Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.”
- Let Him put His words in your mouth and at the same time let His Spirit energize you!
- The disciples got their sleep, but that left them spiritually weak for the challenges they were about to face.
- Physically, they were awake, but spiritually they were asleep
- We need to train our spirit to be stronger than our flesh!
- Today, crucify your flesh and strengthen your Spirit!
- Watch & pray with Jesus!
- Have a great Tuesday!
