DEVO. 06.12.25
“So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, will be like a wise man [a far-sighted, practical, and sensible man]who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24 AMP)
- Jesus says that everyone who hears and acts!
- Not just hearing.
- We have a lot of hearers!
- We have Christian radio
- Christian news
- Church services on TV
- Christian social media
- Millions of Christian podcast
- Christian Blogs…
- We have tons and tons of Christian information to listen to and watch but are we acting on all that we are listening to?
- We need more hearers and doers!
- We need to not only be listeners, but we need to be doers!
- James 1:22 says, “But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves.
- Once we hear a truth from God’s Word, we need to stop and work on that area instead of moving on to 10 different things to work on.
- Building a house starts with the first nail that is hammered in.
- Jesus says that the hearer & doer is a wise man [a far-sighted, practical, and sensible man].
- The wise man doesn’t just look at the here and now but the wise man plans for the future.
- The wise man is the one who builds His/Her house on a solid foundation.
- He looks ahead and prepares for storms.
- It’s not just taking a class on, “How to build a house”, but planning the right location to build and then gathering the tools and doing the hard work of building it.
- So, first, look at “where” you are building.
- You can’t build a big structure on bad soil.
- Place yourself in an environment where spiritual growth is encouraged.
- Take yourself out of a negative, bad environment and place yourself in a good environment.
- Then begin doing the hard work.
- Take the Word of God and begin examining yourself first and working on yourself.
- Take a hard look at the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23 and begin developing the fruit in your own life before looking at anyone else.
- Let’s be far-sighted, practical, and sensible!
- Let’s be hearers and doers of the Word!
- Have a great Thursday!
