DEVO. 02.28.25
“Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’” (Matthew 18:33 NKJV)
- Jesus gives this parable in order to explain how the Kingdom of God works.
- In the parable there is a king who discovers that one of his debtors owed him a million dollars.
- But the debtor pleaded with him and begged him to be patient with him and he would pay it all back.
- The king had mercy and released him of all of his debt.
- This same man went out and discovered that one of his servants owed him a few thousand dollars.
- When this servant pleaded with him and asked him to be patient, he refused and put him in prison until the debt was paid in full.
- When the king found out, he was angry and said, “Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’”
- “Just as”
- That’s how the kingdom of God works!
- We need to forgive, “just as” we’ve been forgiven.
- It doesn’t mean they deserve it.
- It means that you must never forget what you’ve been forgiven of and that you must forgive others just like you’ve been forgiven.
- When Jesus taught us to pray, he said, “forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.”
- “As we also have forgiven”
- In the parable, The king was angry at the unforgiving servant and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.” (Matt. 18:34)
- That’s what to you when you don’t forgive. You become a prisoner to the same things that you were forgiven for.
- Unforgiveness leaves you in bondage.
- Today, if there is someone you need to forgive, just do it.
- Release them and let them go and at the same time you will be letting yourself go!
- John 8:36 says, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” That means completely free!
- If you want to experience true freedom, then you must free others!
- Today, choose to forgive!
- Choose to be a person of Mercy and the more you give out, the more you will receive!
- Have a great weekend!
