DEVO 10.03.22

“Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.” (James‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

- These are the devotionals leading up to Yom Kippur, God’s Holiest Day on His calendar.

- This is a time for repentance and a return to God.

- Because of that, I thought James 4:8 was extremely relevant.

- As Believers, we know that through Jesus’ sacrifice, He became our Yom Kippur scapegoat.

- He became sin for us, taking our sin far from us.

- 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, ““For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”

- But repentance is more than turning away from sin, it is turning to someone.

- What is going to replace the void created by removing sinful habits, mindsets and desires from your life.

- True repentance involves running to Jesus.

- It’s not just saying, “Jesus, forgive me for doing this”, it’s saying, “Jesus, I love you more than this.”

- It is saying, not only am I going to stay away from the cliff that leads to destruction, but I am going to walk as closely to safety as possible.

- It’s saying, “Jesus, I want to walk as closely to you as a person can walk.”

- As you get close to Jesus, you are saying, “I want to love what you love and hate what you hate.”

- Write down some goals, for how you are going to get closer to Him.

- Are you going to spend more time in the Word of God? Then, how are you going to do it?

- Read through Psalm 27, today. What do you observe when you read it? What grabs your attention? How are you going to apply it to your life?

- Set a time and a place to meet with Him free of distractions.

- Are you going to spend more time in prayer? When? And how much time?

- What does that look like?

- Are you going to memorize scripture to help you stay close? Pick out the scriptures and write them down.

- Set specific goals, today, and let the process lead you to His Presence!

- Have a great Monday!
