DEVO. 07.30.24
“I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.” (1 Corinthians 9:27 NLT)
- Every athlete in these Olympic Games has had to go through severe discipline in order to compete at the level that they are at.
- Some have natural talents and abilities but that doesn’t excuse them from training and discipline.
- Their training has been day in and day out… 24/7.
- They train like this, not because they “have to”, but they “Get to”!
- They get the opportunity to be an Olympic athlete!
- It’s an honor and a privilege.
- The same applies to us as Christians!
- We have this incredible opportunity to be called a child of God.
- We “Get to” follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
- We are called His disciples! Not because we “Have to” but because we “Get to”
- Because of this, we discipline ourselves!
- We study the word of God.
- We pray every day and seek His face!
- We discipline our mouths and what we speak.
- We discipline our minds by what we allow ourselves to watch or not watch.
- We “Guard our heart above all else, for it determines the course of our life.”(Proverbs 4:23)
- We don’t allow ourselves to dwell on bitterness, anger or resentment because these things shape us and mold us to be like the world.
- That’s opposite of what we want to become.
- The apostle Paul said that he “disciplined his body like an athlete, training it to do what it should”
- When you discipline yourself you are going against what you naturally want to do.
- It takes work, day in and day out, because of who you are and who you “get to” be!
- Today, examine your life.
- What areas are undisciplined. Don’t overlook them because we all have those undisciplined areas.
- Determine in your heart that you will begin to discipline what is undisciplined.
- Put together a plan!
- Because you are chasing after a different prize!
- It’s an eternal prize and it matters most.
- Remember, there is no “Off Day”
- Have a great Tuesday!
