DEVO. 06.27.24
“And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” (1 Kings 17:4)
- This is one more observation from the life of Elijah.
- Ahab was one of the most wicked kings that Israel had, up to this point and time.
- Ahab was killing all the servants and prophets of God.
- Then the Lord speaks to Elijah.
- Elijah doesn’t just hear the word of the Lord but He delivers the Word of the Lord.
- In other words, Elijah didn’t just pray, but he put his feet to His prayers.
- That’s what God needs.
- He needs those who know how to pray and He needs those who are willing to act on what God says.
- Elijah was not just a hearer of the Word but a doer!
- James 1:22 says, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
- Have you ever felt like God was telling you something in prayer but you did nothing with it!
- God doesn’t want you to pray more!
- He wants you to act on what you already know that He wants you to do.
- Elijah goes to the King and delivers the Word of the Lord, which the Lord gave to Moses in Deuteronomy 11:17.
- God said that if they began to worship other gods, He would “shut up the heavens so that there be no rain, and the land yield no produce, and you perish quickly from the good land which the Lord is giving you.”
- Elijah was just telling King Ahab what he should already know.
- Then God sends Elijah into hiding, where he will be fed by raven and have water from a brook.
- These are progressive steps.
- First Elijah prays.
- Next Elijah had to listen and hear the Word of the Lord,
- Then, he couldn’t hold onto that word but he had to deliver it to the King.
- Then once he did that, the Lord sent him to the brook!
- Each step was a step of trust and Faith in God!
- God would not have told him to hide at the brook if Elijah was not willing to confront the king.
- And God would not have instructed the ravens to feed him if he had stayed home!
- God said the ravens would feed him THERE!
- Where? The place where God was sending him.
- Is there a place that God is sending you, where you are not going?
- Is there something that the Lord is speaking to you about, and you have not done it?
- God will not send the miracle if you are not willing to obey!
- The ravens may still go deliver the meat, but you will not be in the place where God wants you to receive it!
- Today, don’t just pray.
- Put feet to your prayers.
- Have a great Thursday!
