DEVO. 06.18.24
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.” (Proverbs 18:21 AMP)
- Let me remind you, your words have power and in the same way, the words that you listen to and love have power!
- In 1 Kings 18, we read the story of Elijah the prophet and the Nation of Israel.
- The nation of Israel was in a 3 year drought.
- Elijah challenges all of Israel, the 850 prophets of Baal & Asherah to come to Mount Carmel.
- On the mountain, Elijah the prophet prays and calls on the Lord and the Lord brought fire down from heaven that consumed the altar of the Lord in front of all the people!
- He had 850 false prophets killed.
- Then God sent rain as he had promised he would.
- After all that, King Ahab goes home and tells Queen Jezebel all that has happened.
- She responds by sending a message to Elijah that says, “by this time tomorrow” I will kill you “just as you killed them.” (1Kings 19:2)
- And Elijah’s response is found in verse 3, “Elijah was afraid and fled for his life.”
- What? Did I miss something?
- Elijah has just had the mightiest victory and now he listens to one message from Jezebel and he is fleeing for his life?!
- That right there is the power of words!
- “Death and life are in the power of the tongue”
- I will continue this more tomorrow, but let me encourage you today.
- Be careful to what words you listen to.
- You will bear the fruit of the words that you indulge in.
- Have people in your life who will speak the word of God to you and speak life giving words!
- Reject and turn away from words that tear down and bring discouragement.
- Listen to life and speak life.
- Your life will be a reflection of the words that you indulge in.
- Have a great Tuesday!
