DEVO. 06.06.24
“Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.”
(Proverbs 16:18 AMP)
- This Proverb gives a strong warning.
- It says Pride goes before.
- That means that “Pride” is like a street sign that is telling you what is ahead, right around the corner.
- Webster dictionary defines pride as, “Confidence and satisfaction in oneself”
- James 4:6 says that “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.””
- Why would God resist the proud?
- Because it is openly rejecting God as our creator.
- It is saying, “God I don’t need you. Look at what the work of my hands can do!”
- When the people in Genesis 11:4, began to build the Tower of Babel, they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.”
- ”Make us famous”! They were making a name for themselves without recognizing God.
- Then God had to confuse their language and scatter them.
- Today, recognize pride for what it is!
- God will openly resist you if you are full of pride or openly promoting “pride”
- Ask God to reveal any part of your life where you have been prideful.
- Reject pride and humble yourself before Him.
- James 4:10 says, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.”
- Learn to “go low” and let the Lord be the one who “Lifts up”.
- Let’s promote humility, not pride.
- When we promote humility, we are promoting a trust in God.
- Have a great Thursday!
