DEVO. 05.23.24
“For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:8 NLT)
- Today was my first day in Kenya!
- I was having a taxi driver pick me up in Nairobi and taking me to the airport to fly to Kisumu.
- I put my suitcase in the trunk and put my carry-on backpack in the backseat.
- I talked to my taxi driver, whose name is Henry, and found out about his family and told him about my mission of spreading the Word of God in different villages.
- Turns out that Henry is a Christian!
- When I got to the airport, I got my suitcase out of the trunk and headed to check in.
- As I was checking my bags, I suddenly realized that my backpack, with all my teaching material, was left in Henry’s car.
- I ran out to the drop off area and asked some of the security guards if they had seen my cab driver.
- Of course they looked at me as if I was crazy (I do believe I was slightly crazy at the time).
- I stood out on the corner with hundreds of cars flying by and realized my backpack was gone!
- I prayed on that corner, out loud, and said “God, please bring me my backpack!”
- I kept standing there and reminded God that I was teaching about Jesus to people who needed Him and I really needed that backpack to accomplish this mission that He brought me into!
- I walked over to the check in area and stopped on the curb before going in.
- I looked up and there was Henry, running to me with my backpack and notebooks in hand!
- I thanked Henry and hugged him like he was my very own son.
- I thanked Henry for his honesty and tipped him very nicely!
- Henry said that as he was driving away from the airport he looked in the back seat and saw my backpack.
- I thanked God for causing Henry to look in his back seat and for answering my prayer!
- I thanked God for bringing my backpack to me in an impossible situation.
- Bottom line, God tells us to ask.
- When we ask, we will receive!
- James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask God.”
- Let this small devotional remind you to “ask.”
- You can’t receive, if you don’t ask.
- The door isn’t going to open if you don’t knock.
- So, no matter how ridiculous your situation looks, simply “ask!”
- Give God a chance to amaze you!
- Have a great Thursday!
