DEVO. 05.10.24
“Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew taller and grew in favor with the Lord and with the people.” (1 Samuel 2:26 NLT)
- Eli’s sons, who served at the Lord’s temple were sinning against the Lord and against the people.
- They were living immoral lives and Eli was giving them a warning.
- Verse 25 said, “Eli’s sons wouldn’t listen to their father, for the Lord was already planning to put them to death.”
- Then verse 26 starts with “meanwhile”
- Even though Samuel was surrounded by 2 leaders who were living unholy & corrupt lives, Samuel was growing closer to the Lord.
- Samuel could have easily chosen to live like Eli’s sons and follow right along with their example but he chose to know the Lord and get close to Him.
- It was a choice!
- We all have a choice of what our “meanwhile story” is going to be.
- When everyone around you is cursing the name of God, what does your “meanwhile story” say?
- When everyone around you is gossiping and criticizing those in leadership, what is you “meanwhile” story?
- When everyone around you is living in fear, what is your “meanwhile”?
- You have the ability to write your own story.
- Would it be written, “Meanwhile, Don lived in faith and trusted in God”?
- Would it say, “Meanwhile, Don Honored the name of Jesus and held his name in high regard”?
- Would it say, “Meanwhile, Don blessed those around him instead of cursing and because of those words the favor of God was upon all of them”?
- Today, you have a choice to live out your “meanwhile story”
- Make the choice to draw close to God and live under “the shelter of the Most High” as Psalm 91 says!
- Let your “Meanwhile” say that you chose to grow in favor with the Lord!
- Let your present day be shaped by the time you spend abiding in His presence.
- Disregard how everyone around you is living, acting and talking!
- Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
- Let this be your Meanwhile story!
- Have a great Weekend!
