DEVO. 04.07.23
“Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”
When he had said this, he breathed his last.” (Luke 23:46)
- These are Jesus’ very last words on the Cross!
- When He said, “It is Finished” (John 19:30), He was declaring that the work that He had been sent to do was complete.
- His work of redemption had been accomplished.
- The debt for our sin had been paid in full.
- The plan of salvation was established.
- And now He says, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”
- He is quoting Psalm 31:5.
- This is a Psalm that every Jew would pray at night before going to bed.
- And Jesus shouted it.
- He is saying, Father, “My life is in your hands!”
- He is saying, “I am trusting you with everything!”
- At what we would call His lowest moment, He Trusts God with His Life!
- He is placing His life in the safest hands that He knows.
- He is trusting His life in the hands that places the stars in the sky (Psalm 8:3)
- Psalm 95:4 says, “In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.”
- He is the God of the Mountain and the valley!
- The word “commit” can also mean deposit.
- It can mean to deposit something for the safekeeping of another person.
- It’s like a safety deposit box.
- You place things there that you don’t want broken, damaged or stolen.
- Jesus is saying , “Father, my life is deposited in you”.
- Father, my life is protected by you!
- If Jesus can do that with His life, shouldn’t you?
- What is the thing that you are still holding on to?
- What is the thing that you worry about the most?
- Can you take that thing and trust God with it?
- Can you say, “God, I trust you with my life.”?
- Can you trust Him with your kids?
- Can you trust Him with you finances?
- Can you trust Him with you Relationship?
- What is the thing that you keep taking back?
- The thing that you trust yourself with more than you trust God?
- Today , I encourage you to say to God, “Into Your hands, I commit All!”
- All that I have been holding onto and all that I am...I trust you, God!
- That place where you have been hurt the most, say, “Father, I trust you”
- Tell Him, “It’s yours, and leave it in His hands”
- Can you trust Him?
- Have a Good Friday!
