DEVO 02.08.24

DEVO. 02.08.24

“By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.” (Hebrews 11:31)

- “By Faith the prostitute Rahab”

- This is a prostitute’s story of faith! I wonder what kind of a story your faith is telling?

- I guarantee that Rahab would have never thought that her decision to hide the spies that came to her house would be an example, for generations to come, of her faith.

- Here she was, a sinful woman from a pagan background, who recognized the God of Israel as the true God of Heaven and earth.

- She had a decision to make.

- She had heard the stories of what God had done for His people, Israel, as they crossed the Red Sea on dry land. (Joshua 2: 10)

- She said, “When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.”

- And now, two spies were in front of her.

- The king of Jericho was searching for them. (Joshua 2: 2)

- She had to make a decision, either to fear the king of Jericho or Believe in the God of Israel.

- In Joshua 2: 12-13, she says, “Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will save us from death.”

- She hides the spies and has faith in God.

- She feared God more than man.

- She chose to trust Him, even when it could cost her life.

- The spies told her in verse 14, “Our lives for your lives!” the men assured her. “If you don’t tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the Lord gives us the land.”

- Wow! Our lives for your lives.

- Not just her life but the lives of her family.

- An outsider is welcomed in and protected

- She abandoned Canaan’s gods and, in faith, joined with Israels God and eventually became an ancestor of the Messiah.

- She goes from being looked down upon to being our example.

- She becomes our example of faith and it all comes down to a decision.

- What decision is in front of you today?

- Is its decision to live pure?

- Is it a decision to be truthful?

- Is it a decision to not compromise?

- Is it a decision to Fear man or fear God?

- Your decision shows who you really trust.

- In Joshua 2: 11 she says, “the Lord your God” and now He has become “Her God”

- She is set apart.

- She is made clean.

- She is goes from pagan to pure because of her decision.

- Joshua 24: 15 says, “choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.”

- Make a choice.

- Let your faith tell a story, today!

- Make a decision, today.

- Your decision has eternal significance!

- Have a great Thursday!
